A blog makeover was something that has been on my list for a long time, but never really made it up to the top. I was still quite happy with the old design and there was simply no need to rush things. The good old “eventually” snuck its way in, which means in most cases if we are being honest: I won’t happy any time soon. Maybe next year. Or never. In my case, my unpromising eventually turned into a: why not right now? within a matter of one single day. Believe me, I was as surprised as you are about that. Usually, I am not really the spontaneous type. So how did I end up in front my laptop with a complete redesign at 4 o’clock at night? Well, basically I stumbled upon a design that I liked and the decision was made. Well, almost. A few hours later it was. What would life be without the good old back and forth: “Should I do it? Shouldn’t I?”
For all of you who might think: Well, it doesn’t look too different to me, girl?! – I have written down a few things that changed.
- First of all, I switched from Blogger to WordPress
This one might not be so obvious for you as a reader since the domain feelwunderbar.com stayed the same. The biggest change is on my end. From now on, I am hosting the blog myself, which enables me to be a lot more independent and flexible with the site.
- A new Slider
A slider was the one thing that I really, really wanted and that sealed the deal for me. Seeing more at a glance was the main goal of this blog makeover and I think the slider plays a big role in that.
- Full Post to Grid Layout
I really wanted to keep the Blog vibe alive, yet also make all of my other posts more visible and accessible. With the old design, I felt like so much was just “out of sight, out of mind”. Now, it is so much easier to just really click through the entire site and look at lots of different posts.
- A new Instagram Footer
From now on, you can see a lot more pictures of my Instagram on the blog. In the sidebar as well as the footer. Another aspect that helped my final decision a lot, since I am quite the visual person. One can never see to many pictures!
- Mobile Friendly
A while back, I read an article about how many people read blogs and visit site likes Pinterest on their mobile devices these days. Knowing that my old page was far from mobile friendly, I knew that that was another important aspect that needed to change. Now, it is actually enjoyable to check out the site on my Iphone – who would have thought!
All in all, here i sit, happy about finally making the decision to change things up a bit and do a Blog Makeover. A decision that also stands for more commitment to this blog for me. It has changed into so much more than just a hobby for me. I still love doing it and I am just so happy to see the Blog grow day by day thanks to you guys!
Without YOU, it wouldn’t be what it is today – so thank you so much! How do you like the new design?
